CQC Safe Series Webinar: Involving people to manage risks
Hosted by Dr Clare Sieber (GP Clinical Adviser), the session will be led by Gabi Ashton, former CQC Inspector and CQC Compliance Specialist. Together with the panel, the webinar will explore how organisations involve people in understanding, assessing, and managing risk in practice – with particular relevance to Primary Care – while remaining applicable across all services working within the CQC framework.
The session will take the CQC’s wording as a starting point and explore what this means in practice. This includes how providers balance safety with people’s rights, preferences, and independence, and how risk is communicated clearly to support informed decision-making.
Using extracts from recent inspection reports and real-world examples, we will explore themes such as:
- how risks are identified, assessed, and discussed with patients
- the importance of clear communication around treatment risks and side effects
- what proportionate, person-centred risk management looks like in practice
- how organisations support people to make informed decisions, including where preferences and clinical advice may differ
- working collaboratively to manage risk, including across teams and services
