This is a 2 day online SSSA Foundation training for registered nurses.

You must attend both days to successfully finalise the training. You will be expected to have your camera on and participate in the conversations as if it was a normal classroom environment.

Links to both session will be sent to you 2 days before the training.

Day 1 – Monday 25th November 09:00 – 15:30
Day 2 – Monday 16th December 09:00 – 14:00

This is a course for GPNs who have not completed any mentorship qualifications (e.g. ENB 998) in the past, and who are interested in supporting leaners in practice.
This training will equip your nurse with the fundamentals of teaching and supporting learners in practice. This will enhance the nurse’s knowledge and will be a step towards becoming a nurse educator.

This course has been rebuilt from the ground up, using the 2019 NMC’s Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment. The course has been re-designed to be more engaging and interactive.

The course incorporates the following modules, so no pre online learning is necessary:
  • Understanding students
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Assessing learning needs
  • Assessing learning in Practice
  • Giving feedback
  • Coaching skills

The training is split into 2 sessions:

Day 1: This covers the history of SSSA, the new roles and how to give feedback, this is an interactive session which involves discussion, and it aims to give you the tools you need to be a Practice Supervisor

Day 2: This day covers the next steps, signing off midpoint and final interviews, and action plans and how to fail a student, it will equip you with the tools you need to be a Practice Assessor. Once again this is an interactive session with lots of discussion. The aim is you to attend this course with the commitment to taking a student in the next 3-6 months.

Completing this course will equip you with the skillset needed to support students.
Individuals who complete this course will be held on a database, and you will be signposted to further courses to support your role as a primary care educator.
