Student Nursing Associates

Criteria

  • Functional Skills L2 in Maths and English or equivalent. Contact your local college for course dates if you don’t currently meet this requirement.
  • Support from your practice partners, management team.
  • Understanding of the commitment – 1 or 2 days per week at university and two 4/5 week placements each year on programme. Placements are a reciprocal agreement with acute/community trusts and arranged with the practices. Practices hosting a placement should have a GPN assessor with SSSa course and a mentor (nurse or other practitioner) in post. North West London Training Hub can assist with access to the SSSa course for GPN assessors without this course – this is one afternoon session.
  • A contract for a minimum of 30 hours per week that runs for the duration of the course.

Duration

2 years with either 1 or 2 days a week in university. Courses vary depending on the university – attendance hours add up to the same at the end of the course.

Most GP practices are able to have 100% of the course fees paid for by a levy transfer from a trust facilitated by the Training Hub

  • Up to £15,000 apprenticeships levy for the course funds
  • PCNs able to claim 100% of the TNA salary through ARRS funding
  • £4,000 per year per TNA for the practice/PCN
