Brunel University

Brunel University London are looking for GP practices to host clinical placements for student nursing associates, student nurses and physiotherapists (pre-registration BSc (Hons) and MSc).
There are a variety of placements available:

4-6 week placementStudent NAs/nurses or physios would be based in the practice for 4- 6 weeks, shadowing clinicians and practice staff.
Blended learning model (attendance and eLearning),The university is able to support practices, clinical and therapeutic teams unable to provide a full time (37.5hrs a week) placement through the provision of a blended learning model, where a blend of clinical/face-to-face and eLearning can be used.
Hub & spoke placementA ‘hub & spoke’ model could operate within the PCN to enable students to gain experience in a range of clinical settings, clinics and services
Peer-to-peer learningThe university is able to support the development of peer-assisted learning approaches where students can be placed in pairs (learner dyads), threes or fours (including students from different universities), to learn from each other, using a coaching model. Coaching training can be provided by the university.
Arms-length and indirect supervisionGP practices with small clinical teams or part-time staff can be supported to provide placements directly from the university through arms-length/indirect supervision models that complement the role of practice supervisors, assessors and educators
Long ‘skinny’ placement.Physiotherapy students can complete placements of 1x day a week over a longer period.

There is a student tariff for the placement of £130 per week payable to the practice or PCN

Once a practice or PCN expresses an interest:
– Brunel University London would set up an initial scoping meeting to identify which students would benefit from placement experience and what practice education model would be most appropriate.
– Brunel University London can support with an educational audit to assess quality of learning environment, practice supervisor/assessor/educator capacity, identify development needs, opportunities and delivery model. If your PCN has already been assessed as a quality assured learning environment the full audit will not be needed.
– There will be an introduction to Brunel Student Health & Partnerships Team: placements manager and relevant placement officer(s) with Practice Education Lead(s) present from either nursing or physiotherapy.
– Brunel University London can provide Link Lecturer/Tutor support for practice supervisors/assessors/educators from university where necessary; either in-person or online.
