GPN Trainees – Recruiting Practices NOW
We are currently recruiting Practices to take GPN Academic Trainees for a September 2024 start date. We are aiming to work with Practices, to address the below and this is outlined on the linked flyer:
- Directly address the critical shortage of GPNs across NW London
- Directly address the barrier to Practices being able to recruit to GPN vacancies
- Provide a supportive training Practice
- Establish value in the Supervisor and Assessor role
- Deliver a fair and equitable scheme across NWL
- Ensure standardised education, supervision and competency levels for NWL GPN training and recruitment
- Work towards helping the Practice with succession planning
The GPN Trainee Academic course is a year long course, which will result in a skilled GPN. Throughout the year, the Trainee will spend part of their time at University and part of their time at the Practice. The Practice is responsible for employing the Trainee for the duration of the course but they will receive a £20K NHSE (WTE) training grant, which is usually paid at £5K per quarter. The actual course is also fully funded by NHSE (WTE) The Trainee will be able to run independent clinics (cervical cytology, imms, health checks etc) as they go through their course. This is a really good opportunity for Practices, given the potential funding and support, which leads to a skilled General Practice Nurse.
If you are interested please complete this Expression of Interest (EOI) and return this to Sally Armstrong or Karen Sood as soon as possible. Also linked is the NHSE GPN Trainee guide for 23/24, which outlines course detail. On receipt of EOIs, we will assess the initial interest and make contact with appropriate Practices to discuss further. We are currently waiting for confirmation of funding from NHSE, so at the moment we are just reviewing EOIs.
